I often get asked what a typical day is like as a senior pug mom, psychotherapist, writer, and 50-year-old trying to show up fully in midlife. Although no two days are truly the same, here’s a sneak peek into my life in the petite “Pink Palace” (my tiny condo in Washington, DC).
AM Ritual 7-9ish
Feed, water, and walk my senior rescue pugs. Make green tea and a green smoothie. Scroll through email, social, and The New York Times sooner than I wish I did (why can’t I just wait?!). Soak in the tub with Epsom salts. Do a five-step skin care routine (I know, I know!). Apply makeup (waterproof mascara, brow gel, cat eyes, and red lips). Get dressed (typically another set of what I wore the day before from my eco-clothing line TDJ).
Start Day 9ish
Review planner (still a paper girl). Handle life admin and emails. Write in my journal. Work on creative projects. Take meetings.
Noonish
Virtual ballet class and/or physical therapy.
Afternoon
Sessions with therapy clients.
Evening Ritual 7-10ish
Walk and cuddle pugs. Work on creative projects. Take a virtual ballet class if I didn’t earlier. Life admin such as email, laundry. Do a five-step skin care routine. Read. Maybe another soak in the tub. Lights out.
Weekends
Same start as weekdays with more of the above evening activities sprinkled throughout the day PLUS enjoying tea dates with girlfriends, attending museum, jazz, or performing arts events, penning snail mail, and hosting Coterie events.
